What is SpentaCRM?

SpentaCRM is now publicly available on GitHub as an open-source and modular CRM platform designed for B2B organizations. The project aims to provide a reusable CRM foundation that companies and developers can adapt to their own processes instead of rebuilding the same infrastructure from scratch for every deployment.

Common capabilities such as companies, contacts, sales opportunities, projects, tasks, activities, permissions and dashboards belong to the core, while organization-specific functionality can be introduced through configuration, integrations and installable modules.

A CRM that can become different products for different organizations

Most businesses require similar CRM building blocks, but their workflows, terminology, sales processes, organizational structures and integrations are rarely identical.

SpentaCRM is designed around this distinction. The core remains maintainable and reusable, while each organization can extend the platform according to its own operational requirements.

The current project includes foundations for Companies and Contacts, Deals and sales pipelines, Projects, Tasks, Activities, operational dashboards, RBAC, audit history and global search.

A new modular architecture

One of the major recent additions to the project is Module Runtime v3. A SpentaCRM module is not limited to a JSON configuration file. It can be developed as a small project and distributed as a ZIP package containing both a manifest and browser-ready runtime files.

For example, an organization could develop an Inventory, Accounting, Customer Success, Expense Tracking, Meeting Management or company-specific internal module and install it without directly modifying the CRM core.

A package can look like this:

Code
123456789
inventory-module.zip
├── spenta-module.json
├── src/
├── dist/
│ ├── pages/
│ ├── widgets/
│ ├── tabs/
│ └── runtime.js
└── README.md

The spenta-module.json file acts as the module manifest. It describes identity, version, publisher, permissions and contribution points, while the actual user interface and runtime behavior live in the packaged project files.

What can a module add?

Portable SpentaCRM modules can currently contribute capabilities including:

  • Complete CRM pages
  • Sidebar navigation entries
  • Dashboard widgets
  • Entity tabs for Companies, Contacts, Deals and Projects
  • Entity actions
  • Isolated custom workflows and interfaces
  • HTTPS API communication from the sandboxed runtime

An Inventory module, for example, could provide a complete stock-management page, a stock-health dashboard widget and an Inventory tab inside every Company record.

Modules can declare simple, medium, advanced or professional complexity tiers, allowing the ecosystem to support everything from small utilities to larger enterprise-oriented capabilities.

For security, portable ZIP modules execute inside isolated sandboxed iframes and do not receive direct access to the main CRM DOM, cookies, local storage or React application state.

Where SpentaCRM is heading

SpentaCRM is actively evolving. Planned directions include richer automation, integrations, analytics, module tooling and AI-assisted workflows.

A major long-term direction is Agentic CRM: enabling intelligent agents to understand customer context, deals, activities, tasks and organizational workflows, and then assist users with analysis, decision-making and controlled execution.

The goal of SpentaCRM is therefore not to build one rigid CRM for every company. It is to create an open and extensible foundation capable of becoming a different CRM for each organization that adopts it.

The project source code is publicly available on GitHub and development is continuing.
